Greetings New Patriots and welcome to Sixth grade! I am Joycelyn Harris, and I have been a part of the Berkmar Middle School family since 2017. I began my career as an elementary school counselor, and this is my 23rd year in education. It is my honor to serve and support your family as you begin your middle school journey.
Since graduating from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, I have served as a school counselor in North Carolina, Virginia and Georgia. I have also supported learning as an MTSS coordinator, early child-care program manager and early interventionist with Babies Can't Wait.
In addition to providing individual student planning and support, I am a member of our PBIS, MTSS, Building Leadership Teams and lead counselor.
I am a Florida native, Army brat, mom of 2 awesome sons and a dog mom! Outside of school counseling, I enjoy reading mystery and crime novels, solving sudoku and logic puzzles, listening to good music, spending time with family and friends and walking in the sunshine.
My journey working with children and families began initially in social services and higher education. I have held various positions within the last 15 years, such as a transitional living counselor, group home counselor, college enrollment counselor, and career counselor. I pursued my Master of Education Degree in Counselling from Cambridge University. After graduating, I began my journey in post-secondary education as a school counselor at the high school level in Memphis, TN. I moved to Florida to work as a middle school counselor for Indian River School in 2019 and in 2022, I joined the BMS Counseling team. Since moving back to Georgia, I have truly enjoyed supporting our 7th-grade teachers, students, and their families as they strived for academic success and personal growth. Here at BMS, I have an open-door policy for my students, teachers, and parents. I love being a part of BMS and I look forward to many years with the BMS counseling department.
Beyond the Berkmar Middle School Counseling Department, I am a member of the PBIS team and our school’s REACH scholarship coordinator. Outside of school counseling, I enjoy playing tennis, hiking, swimming, and spending time with my family. My aspirations in life are to always be the light in a dark room, exude positivity, and always remain humble.
I’m Ms. Feinberg, the proud 8th grade counselor here at Berkmar Middle School. I’ve been a school counselor in Gwinnett County for 22 years, and this is my tenth year in the Berkmar Cluster. I’m so excited to work with your students during this important final year of middle school!
I truly love what I do and feel honored to support, guide, and encourage students as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
In addition to my counseling role, I serve as the 8th grade Peer Leading sponsor and the coach of PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) at Berkmar Middle.
Outside of school, I enjoy watching sports, traveling, exercising, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
